The set timetable for validation midyear and registration with the UN end of 2013 is on track. DG Works Ltd, a Rwandan company based in Kigali with experience in developing emission reducing projects, has come on board in the capacity as Coordinating and Managing Entity (CME) and a small scale grid-connected hydro power project has been selected as a pilot project.

These schemes are expected to cover:
- around 850 million people
- around 30 per cent of the global economy, and
- around 20 per cent of global emissions.

The sooner action is taken, the cheaper the overall bill to our economies will be. Assuming a 2 degree target we would need to reduce emissions year-on-year by over 2 %. The report contains an interesting annex detailing the climate change policies of all major economies.

The CDM can trigger at least 1 trillion US$ private sector investment until 2020, the sort of magnitude we need to see over the coming years if we are serious about staying below the two-degree climate warming target.

The  CDM has to date delivered 1.3 billion CERs and the electricity produced by its renewable energy projects alone is sufficient to cover the entire annual demand of the UK.

We believe we deserve this award again because we have managed to register the world’s first water purification programme with the UN last summer. Over 1.2 million liters of water have already been purified, saving the local communities over half a million EURs in wood costs. Also, the sick leave of both doctors, nurses, pupils and teachers at hospitals and schools where the units were installed, has dropped massively.
